Until now, it was necessary to have at least a 4.5 GPA to enter a non-consecutive master’s program after completing a bachelor’s degree at EPFL, with possibly specific access conditions for each additional master’s program and a review of the application. A consecutive master’s program to one’s bachelor’s degree is a program for which one enjoys automatic admission (for example: a bachelor’s degree in MT => master’s degrees in MT and Robotics).

During the Conference of Section Directors, a monthly meeting attended by the AGEPoly, some section directors expressed the desire to remove the minimum requirement of a 4.5 GPA to enter a non-consecutive master’s program after completing a bachelor’s degree. To reflect on this issue, a first working group was established in spring 2023, whose work was continued in autumn 2024 by another group, totaling… 2 meetings 🙂 Several options were considered, such as replacing the minimum 4.5 GPA in a general average with a minimum of 4.5 GPA in several prerequisite courses specified per master.

The Conference of Section Directors in April 2024 voted among several options and chose to continue the application review process as currently done (and as also done at ETHZ), simply removing the minimum requirement of 4.5 GPA for application submission.

So, starting from next year, it will be possible to apply to a master non-consecutive to your bachelor without necessarily having a 4.5 GPA!

Sections were also asked to explain on their master’s program web pages the criteria (including bachelor’s courses) that boost admission chances.
